This five-day trek takes you through isolated villages hidden in the mountains. Some of the highlights along this trek are the monasteries at Lamayuru, Mang Gyu and Alchi. This trek is an alternative to the Lamayuru to Alchi trek via Stakspi La.
Itinerary
Day 1: Lamayuru - Prinkti La - Wanla
Time: 3-4 hrs
Distance: 9.1 km
Elevation gain / loss: +369m / -592m
| - | visit Lamayuru gompa and start the trek by following the trail leading to Prinkti La |
| - | after crossing the pass, go through Shilla village and reach the village of Wanla |
| - | homestay can be arranged in Wanla |
Day 2: Wanla - Base of Tar La
Time: 5 hrs
Distance: 12.4 km
Elevation gain / loss: +569m / -0m
| - | follow the river until you reach Phenjilla village |
| - | from Phenjila, follow the left side of the valley along a small stream towards the village of Ursi |
| - | walk through the village and further ahead is the base of Tar La |
Day 3: Base of Tar La - Tar La - Tar
Time: 8-9 hrs
Distance: 11.6 km
Elevation gain / loss: +1550m / -2081m
| - | today is a tough day to cross the Tar La, the highest pass on the trek from where you will be rewarded with amazing views |
| - | walk to Tar village which is surrounded by nice mountains |
Day 4: Tar - Mang Gyu
Time: 7-8 hrs
Distance: 11.1 km
Elevation gain / loss: +1489m / -1236m
| - | cross two small passes (Hibti La and Mang Gyu La) before reaching the village of Mang Gyu |
| - | visit the monastery which is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh |

Day 5: Mang Gyu - Alchi
Time: 4-5 hrs
Distance: 11.9 km

| - | visit Alchi gompa, well known for its ancient wall paintings |

Getting to / from the trek
